“We Fight to Be Free” Premieres at the 92nd Street Y

Those escaping religious persecution in Europe settled America's colonies, but our nation’s greatest right – the right to practice one’s own religion – was not immediately guaranteed. This short film from Mount Vernon – intended to be used in classrooms across the country – follows the establishment of religious freedom from the founding through George Washington’s historic and precedent-setting letter to the Touro Synagogue congregation.

The live premiere will be followed by an insightful conversation on the topic with an esteemed panel featuring:

Doug Bradburn, President and CEO, George Washington’s Mount Vernon

Joanne Freeman, Author, Professor of History at Yale University

Moderated by David Rubenstein, Patriotic Philanthropist

The full film is available for viewing on Mount Vernon’s YouTube channel.
